regedit hack. (For online gaming)

Here are the instructions:

1 - TcpAckFrequency
Type "regedit" in windows "run.." dialog to bring up registry menu

Then find:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\

There will be multiple NIC interfaces listed in there, find the one you use to connect to the internet, there will be several interfaces listed (they have long names like {7DBA6DCA-FFE8-4002-A28F-4D2B57AE8383}. Click each one, the right one will have lots of settings in it and you will see your machines IP address (192.168.1.100 for my case) listed there somewhere. Right-click in the right hand pane and add a new DWORD value, name it TcpAckFrequency, then right click the entry and click Modify and assign a value of 1.

You can change it back to 2 (default) at a later stage if it affects your other TCP application performance. it tells windows how many TCP packets to wait before sending ACK. if the value is 1, windows will send ACK every time it receives a TCP package.

2 - TCPNoDelay
This one is pretty simple

Find:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSMQ\Parameters

Right-click in the right hand pane and add a new DWORD value, name it TCPNoDelay, then right click the entry and click Modify and assign a value of 1.

Click Ok and close the registry editor, then reboot your PC.

Note: You are dealing with Windows registry here. Please backup before you do anything.
This registry hack basically increases the frequency for the computer to send an acknowledgement TCP/IP packet.
So far this method has reduced my overall ping by 100-120ms.
That 100-120ms makes hell lot of difference when you are playing competitively in online games.

PS: You have to install MSMQ through your control panel if you are using windows 7 as it is not installed by default.

I tested some stuffs out to see if I could get some lowerping like effects by changing how windows sends tcpip packets. Basicallly what I found out was that windows is gay and unless you kick it in the nuts it throttles your internetz by holding onto packets until certain rules are met. I did a little searching and found some registry tweaks that tell windows to stop being a packet holding whore and to share the packets as soon as fucking possible. Below I will post some test results I got from various tests yesterday and a guide on how to make windows not be a packet keeping whore.

Here are some ping values I got while testing this windows tweak and without it and with gamepath and without gamepath Smile hope this helps

I tried these on the Gamepath1 server as Snips at the time was getting 210 - 240 ping.

Test 1
- No Tweak - No Gamepath 750 - 770 ping
- With Tweak - No Gamepath 460 - 480 ping
- No Tweak - With Gamepath 340 - 360 ping
- With Tweak - With Gamepath 260 - 280 ping

This test I tried on the gamepath100 server which gave me simmilar pings to Snips the night before!!

Test 2
- No Tweak - No Gamepath 720 - 760 ping
- With Tweak - No Gamepath 440 - 460 ping
- No Tweak - With Gamepath 300 - 380 ping
- With Tweak - With Gamepath 430 - 450 ping

Conclusion:
The tweak with gamepath results are inconclusive, feel free to test more if you like.
The Tweak without using gamepath showed a big improvement with a whopping 300ms reduction in both tests.

So for a free solution try out the registry tweak below.
